Curious to learn more, we talked to those behind the counter to get a better understanding of WireMasters’ Qualified Product Listed (QPL) connector offering. MIL-DTL-38999 Circular connectors falling under the Mil-Spec MIL-DTL-38999 are composed of four series: Series I Standard Bayonet – A type of pin-and-socket fitting that holds the connector in position when rotated. Scoop-Proof – A long shell that prevents damage to the exposed contact pins during coupling, making it impossible to damage the pins or electrically short the contacts. Series II Low-Profile Bayonet – A more compact and space-effective type of connector. Non-Scoop-Proof – A type of connector that does not protect pins from bending. Series III Threaded Coupling – A method for coupling a mating connector pair by connecting the interior threads of a plug with the exterior threads of a receptacle. Self-Locking – This design is intended to eliminate the need for lock-wiring the coupling nut in place with tie wire and is achieved via a spring-loaded, corrugated washer. Triple Start – A coupling mechanism that protects against vibration and makes pairing and unpairing the connectors faster. Scoop-Proof – A long shell that prevents damage to the exposed contact pins during coupling, making it impossible to damage the pins or electrically short the contacts. Series IV Breech-Lok – One of the newest innovations for the D38999 Series, Breech-Lok offers a rugged fool-proof, quick disconnect operation. Scoop-Proof – A long shell that prevents damage to the exposed contact pins during coupling, making it impossible to damage the pins or electrically short the contacts. WireMasters is currently QPL for Series I, II, and III, with plans for Series IV. These high-density electrical connectors are provided as environment resistant connectors with crimp contacts or hermetically sealed connectors with fixed, nonremovable contacts. Operating in temperature ranges of-65°C to +200°C, they provide EMI Shielding, signal/power control, and optical needs in harsh environments. MIL-DTL-26482 Series II Next, we take a look at some of the ingredients available for MIL-DTL-26482 Series II bayonet coupling, rear-removable, crimp-contact connectors. There are a wide variety of constructions that fall under the spec including: Receptacles: Narrow Flange Wall Mounting Receptacles Wide Flange Wall Mounting Receptacles Cable Receptacles Jam Nut Mounting Receptacles Plugs: Straight Plug Straight Plug with RFI Grounding Fingers Shell sizes ranging from 8 to 24. 33 insert arrangements per MIL-STD-1669 are tooled and qualified to MIL-DTL-26482 Series II, utilizing three to 61 M39029 contacts. Contacts come in sizes 20, 16 and 12, terminating wire sizes from 24 to 12 gauge. Shell finishes include stainless steel and aluminum plated with black anodized, electroless nickel, olive drab cadmium over nickel, or zinc cobalt. Found aboard commercial, military, and aerospace systems, these connectors are top-rated with resistance to shock, and protection from EMI/RFI, fluids/moisture, and corrosion. MIL-DTL-5015 | SAE-AS50151 Coming soon to WireMasters' QPL offering is MIL-DTL-5015 | SAE-AS50151! This spec covers heavy-duty circular threaded electrical connectors with solder or removable crimp contacts often utilized for signal and power supply on various defense, aerospace, and machinery applications. Sustainable in extreme conditions, the connector is a cost-effective option, but a durable one in high-temperature, high-voltage, and vibration environments.
